Sega Genesis Classics Speeds To Modern Consoles This May

Sega formally unveiled their new Genesis collection after it was prematurely leaked days prior. The Sega Genesis Classic (or Sega Mega Drive Classics for UK residents) brings a bevy of 16-bit fun to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on May 29.

Over 50 titles make up the retro collection. Sega hasn’t confirmed specific titles; however, the trailer features Sonic the Hedgehog (duh), Gunstar Heroes, Streets of Rage 2, and ToeJam & Earl. More than just ports, Sega has retrofitted these classics with contemporary tweaks. New additions include online multiplayer, rewind and save states, mirror modes, and, of course, achievements.

Physical copies come packaged with a double-sided Golden Axe/Streets of Rage poster. Sega promises to open pre-orders for both disc and digital copies “very soon” Conspicuous by its absence is news of a Nintendo Switch version. It’s unknown whether this is by design or merely an announcement planned for later. Perhaps its Sega’s bizarre way of reviving its infamous “Nintendon’t” campaign? Nah, probably not.

Enjoy the jubilee of nostalgia that is the announce trailer below. Sadly, it does not feature the 90’s’ “Sega!” scream.
